Powersports - MIC

The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) is a not-for-profit, national trade association created to promote and preserve motorcycling and the U.S. motorcycle industry. This is accomplished through its activities in government relations, statistics, communications, technical, and aftermarket programs. More than 300 members represent manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, parts and accessories, as well as allied trades such as publishing, insurance and consultants. While dealers, clubs and individuals are not eligible for membership, the MIC works with these groups on issues of mutual interest.

The concept for the Partners Standards Protocol evolved from committee studies and analysis started in 1999. Since then, MIC, with the guidance of four major OEM manufacturers, has utilized a collaborative approach to advance PSP to its current stage of development.

In 2003, a successful Proof of Concept and testing with OEMs, aftermarket distributors, and dealer management system providers demonstrated the viability of real-time communications between dealers and OEMs using the proposed PSP specifications. This year, with Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) guidance, the MIC has continued to facilitate the implementation of PSP specifications for adopters of the standard.

The PSP initiative is supported by MIC staff and specialized technology consultants, and receives guidance and counsel from the MIC's Technology Advisory Committee and Business Advisory Committee (BAC).
