The Challenge
Traditionally, DMS vendors have had to write and maintain additional code within their software solutions to generate the proprietary file formats required by each supplier in order to transfer business data between business systems. If a supplier changes its file format, that supplier must notify the DMS providers, who must modify their solutions and send software updates to each affected customer. Thus, DMS providers must apply significant resources simply maintaining existing solutions—time and effort that could be better applied to development of new solutions and product features.
The Opportunity
As a Dealer Service Provider (DSP), you are in a unique position to assist your industry with the rapid deployment of PSP. Adopting PSP enables dealers to establish real-time connections from within their dealership management system (DMS) to their business trading partners.
Dealers are looking for streamlined business transactions. Dealers know if you are PSP compliant, information can be exchanged with them instantaneously from within their DMS.
The Parts Order Suite is the first of the PSP transactions to be introduced. Allowing dealers to check parts pricing, verify parts availability, place parts orders, receive order confirmations, check order status and get shipping information in real time without ever leaving their DMS.
Product Registration and Warranty Claims are scheduled for publication in Q4, 2007.
The PSP Benefit
Maintaining a single suite of file formats with common components greatly reduces the internal development cycle saving time and money. By implementing PSP, improved functionality increases DMS value.
As PSP business transactions are implemented, you are able to:
-
Provide better customer service.
-
Reduce development costs.
-
Simplify and expedite making changes or updates.
-
Reduce the number of proprietary formats to support.
-
Reduce the cost of direct support for dealer training.
-
Simplify routing.
-
Automatically incorporate business rules and changes when they are made by suppliers.
-
Make it easier to add business transactions to the DMS.
Your dealer customers will anticipate that your DMS will be PSP Certified. Operational Support, Testing Support and Certification Testing are requirements for DSPs to become PSP Certified.
The PSP technical staff is ready to assist you. Our team is already working with many industry leaders on their PSP implementations. Certain design and transition strategies have been proven successful. Minimizing time and expense during your design phase is a benefit of the Operational Support program.
